How much do I need to fundraise?
When you sign up for your run, you will be allocated a charity place in your chosen Edinburgh Marathon Festival event. This means we secure your place in the race and you pledge to raise a minimum fundraising amount.
The fundraising targets for each distance event are:
Full Marathon: £500 (this could provide up to 100 meals for people experiencing homelessness)
Half Marathon: £300 (this could provide a meal a day for two months for someone experiencing homelessness)
Edinburgh 10km: £100 (this could provide one meal a day for four weeks for someone experiencing homelessness)
Junior Edinburgh Marathon Events: We have no minimum fundraising targets for Junior events. Charity places in junior events do still cost Social Bite money, so we ask that junior runners do as much fundraising as possible.
Already got your own entry? If you’ve got your own place by signing up independently already, then you don’t have a fundraising target – we’d just ask you raise as much as you can, to help break the cycle of homelessness!
Frequently Asked Questions
Choose to run in support of Social Bite and you will still get a dedicated member of our team to support you all the way as well as fundraising tips and your own Social Bite T shirt. You can let us know during the entry process or email us directly at community@social-bite.co.uk. If you’ve got your own place, then you don’t have a fundraising target – we’d just ask you raise as much as you can, to break the cycle of homelessness!
Once you are part of Team Social Bite you will have a personal point of contact to support you from registration right up to the big day itself – on hand to answer any questions and for fundraising tips, advice, encouragement! We’ll be in contact over email so look out for an email from community@social-bite.co.uk landing in your inbox. You’ll also receive a free Social Bite t-shirt once you’ve raised £50.
We’ll also have an amazing cheering station along to route to help give you some extra motivation
The easiest way to fundraise is online. Set up your own fundraising page with Just Giving here. You can easily see your grand total and donations you collect online automatically come to us as well, so there’s no need to pay in your fundraising separately.
Share your page on your social media, it’s the best way to spread the word about your amazing fundraising. Be sure to tag Social Bite in your social media posts so your followers can learn even more about the cause. Find us on Facebook, X (Twitter) and Instagram.
Setting a target is an important first step – fundraising pages with targets have been proven to raise even more than those without a target. Kickstart your collection by making that first donation yourself too, it inspires others to donate when there’s a starting amount on there!
You’ll get lots more information closer to the time – from us and from the race organisers – you’ll be told where you’ll need to be to start from, how to get your race number, and receive information about the route and where supplies and assistance are. On the day, the Social Bite team will have a cheer point at the side of the race route to cheer you on from (look out for people in green Social Bite t-shirts celebrating you as you run by!). Your friends and family can join us at the cheer point too. At the end of the event, we’ll be there to celebrate your achievement as well.
We’re here to support you with everything along the way, so if anything does come up, we’re here to help. We understand that situations change and unexpected things come along, and we’ll be on hand to work with you to move forward.
Get in touch with us at community@social-bite.co.uk if you have another question or would like any more information – we’d love to hear from you!
