Arron will be part of an amazing 30-strong team of Team Social Bite runners taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival, joining the movement to end homelessness. As we look forward to race day, Arron shared his story and why he’s supporting Social Bite.
Getting inspired
I teach at Fettes Preparatory School and we’ve supported Social Bite with various initiatives over the past few years. As part of Social Bite’s Festival of Kindness last year, the pupils took part in a gift collection drive. Around then, the Social Bite team came in to talk to a school assembly about their amazing work and how the pupils and staff were supporting the mission to end homelessness.
I was truly inspired. Just a few weeks later I signed up to take part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon for Social Bite!
Why the Half Marathon?
Not only will this be my first Half Marathon, but also my first ever official running event!
I’m building up to my life ambition of running a marathon. But I’ve only ever run a maximum distance of 10km, so the Half Marathon is the perfect goal to keep my running journey progressing this year. We’re lucky to have so many amazing local running routes in Edinburgh, so taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival seemed a natural fit.
In the ‘run up’ to race day
I’m nervously excited to take part in the Edinburgh Half Marathon. I really do find extra motivation thinking of the genuinely amazing cause I am supporting when clocking up the training miles. I’m thankful for the opportunity to represent Social Bite and their cause on the day.
My pupils have supported me along the way as well. They get especially excited on the odd occasion when I wear my Social Bite running t-shirt into school! The students know the work of Social Bite well from their own involvement with campaigns, so they’ve been very encouraging and supportive as we’ve got closer to race day.
I’m so excited to take part, and who knows, maybe next year I’ll fulfill my life ambition by taking on the full marathon.
A massive thank you to Arron and all our runners taking part in the Edinburgh Marathon Festival this weekend.
From junior runners participating in their first 1km run, to experienced runners taking on their second or third marathon for Social Bite, it’s truly inspiring to see so many people supporting our work and helping to break the cycle of homelessness.
Registration for the Edinburgh Marathon Festival 2025 is now open. If you’d like to run for Social Bite you can sign up here.
