Over the Festive Season, Social Bite is offering socially conscious shoppers and diner’s the opportunity to spread the Christmas spirit and support Social Bite’s mission to bring Scotland together, build a collaborative movement and end homelessness.

At all Social Bite cafes in Edinburgh, Glasgow and Aberdeen, you can pay for hot drinks and meals for individuals experiencing homelessness and food poverty. As a thoughtful alternative to the traditional ‘Secret Santa’ and last-minute gift giving this year Social Bite are asking the public to ‘Pay it Forward’. Starting at just £2 for a hot drink or £5 for a hot meal, customers can provide practical support for someone in a situation of homelessness. Fans of Social Bite’s coffee can also purchase a bag of the exclusive collaboration Dear Green X Social Bite blend, along with a Social Bite branded KeepCup.

Scottish Restaurants getting behind the Pay it Forward Campaign

Every year Social Bite open the cafe doors on Christmas Eve and Christmas Day for people in a situation of homelessness and food poverty to come and get a Christmas meal and some loving company. Year on year, restaurants nation-wide have partnered with Social Bite to run a major fundraising campaign that helps to fund the free food provisions at Christmas time and throughout the year.

Last year Social Bite distributed more than 140,000 free food and drink items thanks to everyone that took part in the campaign. The funds raised also supported the Social Bite Academy programme helping to provide employment opportunities to people in a situation of homelessness to help break the cycle.

Over the last three years, some of Scotland’s most prestigious restaurants have rallied behind the Social Bite mission and asked their diners to add a £1 donation onto their bill over November and December. Building on the success of last year, which saw partner restaurants raise almost £50,000, over 40 businesses across Scotland will ask customers to add £1 to their bill and offer the opportunity to ‘pay forward’ a Christmas meal for individuals experiencing homelessness during the 2019 Christmas period.
