Edinburgh’s Kiltwalkers turn out in record numbers

This year’s Kiltwalk was the biggest ever for Social Bite participants and raised over £5,000.

Taking it all in their stride

We’re chuffed that 2024’s Edinburgh Kiltwalk saw almost 60 walkers taking on the challenge in support of Social Bite.

On Sunday 15th September, these intrepid members of the movement to end homelessness laced up their walking shoes, pulled on Social Bite t-shirts and donned their best tartan. They set off on the 11 mile ‘Big Stroll’ or the 20 mile ‘Mighty Stride’ around Edinburgh, finishing up at the home of Scottish rugby: the iconic Scottish Gas Murrayfield stadium.

Our massive ‘Team Social Bite’ included first time challengers, walkers taking part with friends and family, and workplace teams from Coutts, Buzzworks and Version 1. Altogether Team Social Bite helped to raise awareness and funds for ending homelessness in Edinburgh and beyond.

Fantastic fundraisers

A great day out was topped off with an amazing £5,500 raised for Social Bite to help break the cycle of homelessness.

These funds will be used to further the impact of our Jobs First employment programme and our three village projects. They’ll also support our free food provision from Social Bite coffee shops, which help people who are vulnerable and most in need with hot food and support.

In fact, the funds raised from our Kiltwalk-ers would fund the free food services in one of our Scottish coffee shops for a month.

Social Bite’s Senior Event Executive Ross Clark was thrilled with the Kiltwalkers’ efforts.

“It was incredible to have our biggest ever team taking part in the Edinburgh Kiltwalk this year. It’s not an easy task to walk the distances involved, so to see so many of our amazing supporters rise to the challenge, support the mission to end homelessness and raise so much is really inspiring.

“For anyone considering taking on a challenge next year, whether it’s a Kiltwak, your first ever 5k, or a full marathon, we’d love to have you on Team Social Bite.”

Do you look good in tartan?

A massive thank you to each person who took on the Kiltwalk for Social Bite, and to everyone who kindly supported their fundraising efforts with a donation. If you or your workplace are interested in taking part in an event for Social Bite next year, you can get in touch with Ross and find out more about how to sign up at community@social-bite.co.uk.

Here’s to making Social Bite’s Kiltwalk 2025 even bigger!
