Volunteer with Social Bite this Christmas

We will once again be installing our stunning Trees of Kindness in five key cities – Edinburgh, Glasgow, Aberdeen, Dundee and London. From 15th Nov until 22nd Dec, we’ll be inviting the public to visit the Trees to donate gifts and essential items for people and families experiencing homelessness.

Festival of Kindness isn’t possible without amazing volunteers like you!

Your main role as a volunteer at the Trees of Kindness will be to provide a warm smile and welcoming presence at our tree installations for supporters. You will welcome supporters to our tree and let them know more about how they can support the Festival of Kindness by bringing a gift or by making a donation that could help someone who is vulnerable this winter.

In a typical shift you might find yourself:

  • Handing out literature and giving information about Social Bite and the Festival of Kindness to passers-by
  • Collecting gifts and donations from supporters, businesses or schools visiting the tree
  • Counting gifts and helping to pack up the van – ready to go to our sorting and distribution warehouse
  • Interacting with crowds at the tree when we have visiting choirs and performers, and spreading awareness about Festival of Kindness

Volunteer at Edinburgh’s Torchlight

We are thrilled to be one of the charity partners for Edinburgh’s Torchlight procession again this year, as part of the Edinburgh Hogmanay celebrations. Thousands of people will be taking to Edinburgh’s streets once again this year to welcome in the new year, whilst helping to shine a light on homelessness.

Taking place on Sunday the 29th December, were looking for volunteers who can help support the event. Duties could include:

  • Stewarding participants to line-up for the procession at the beginning
  • Supporting participants in collecting their torch before the procession begins
  • Stewarding the procession, and making sure everyone is taking the correct route
  • Being a friendly face, and helping people out who aren’t sure of how the procession works
